Tunable optical response of bowtie nanoantenna arrays on thermoplastic substrates.

Thermally responsive polymers present an interesting avenue for tuning the optical properties of nanomaterials on their surfaces by varying their periodicity and shape using facile processing methods. Gold bowtie nanoantenna arrays are fabricated using nanosphere lithography on prestressed polyolefin (PO), a thermoplastic polymer, and optical properties are investigated via a combination of spe...

Plasmonic bowtie nanolaser arrays.

Plasmonic lasers exploit strong electromagnetic field confinement at dimensions well below the diffraction limit. However, lasing from an electromagnetic hot spot supported by discrete, coupled metal nanoparticles (NPs) has not been explicitly demonstrated to date. We present a new design for a room-temperature nanolaser based on three-dimensional (3D) Au bowtie NPs supported by an organic gain...

Engineered SERS substrates with multiscale signal enhancement: nanoparticle cluster arrays.

Defined nanoparticle cluster arrays (NCAs) with total lateral dimensions of up to 25.4 microm x 25.4 microm have been fabricated on top of a 10 nm thin gold film using template-guided self-assembly. This approach provides precise control of the structural parameters in the arrays, allowing a systematic variation of the average number of nanoparticles in the clusters (n) and the edge-to-edge sep...

Correlated AFM and SERS imaging of the transition from nanotriangle to nanohole arrays.

Mapping the transition of Ag nanotriangle to nanohole arrays revealed that the optimal SERS response was obtained near the transition. Correlated AFM and Raman imaging provided novel experimental proof that hot spots are located on Ag islands for nanotriangle arrays and in the core area of the hole for nanohole arrays, which is in agreement with previous theoretical predictions.
